Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI), the Province of British Columbia, an $8-million gift from UBC alumni Ross and Trisha Beaty and a $3-million gift from the djavad mowafaghian foundation.
Architectural features:
The 11, 550 sq. metre (122, 546 sq. ft) four storey facility combines the Beaty Biodiversity Research Centre and the Beaty Natural History. The Beaty Biodiversity Centre supports research into habitat, species and ecosystems and also includes an exhibit function.The Djavad Mowafaghian Atrium, a two-storey glass gallery in the Beaty Biodiversity Museum, currently houses a 25-metre skeleton of a blue whale. The Beaty Centre incorporates sustainability features such as a green roof and water channel.
