Term Archivist – Records Survey Project

The University Archives requires the services of a contract archivist to organize and conduct a campus-wide survey of institutional records created and maintained throughout the University of British Columbia. The contractor will collect and analyse information pertaining to office records and records-keeping systems within all University units. Such information will include but not be limited to: the function(s) of each office; the record series arising from these functions, and their contents; the volume of records, and their annual accumulation or turnover; the frequency of use of the records; filing systems in use; retention requirements; and security provisions.

Qualifications and requirements: Applicants must have a graduate degree in archival studies. Experience in records management and/or archival work in a university setting would be an asset. Experience in files management, functional analyses of records systems and the appraisal and scheduling of records an asset. Applicants should have a sound understanding of electronic records principles, and information management systems. Specific experience in conducting records inventories on a large scale and developing classification systems would be a definite asset.

The position requires an individual who possesses good organizational abilities and strong interpersonal and communications skills and is able to work independently. Applicants must have demonstrated ability to plan, implement and complete projects. A sound knowledge of, and practical experience with, computers (including office productivity software) and information technology is essential.

Evening or weekend work may be required.

Terms of Appointment: This position will be filled as a fixed term position for a period of nine months from the date of hire.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and academic/professional qualifications. Because of budget limitations and salary constraints, application from candidates for this position is limited to those with no more than two years of professional archival experience.
