The Transition to Online Journals: A Second Phase (2005)

  Introduction

The Library is committed to expanding its online journal collection and has moved in the direction of purchasing online only journal subscriptions and cancelling print, when a reliable and stable online version exists. During Phase One, the Library identified over 1,600 journal titles that existed in both print and online form, discontinued the print subscriptions effective January 2004, and experienced a net saving of nearly $600,000. These savings permitted the Library to meet price increases for existing unique subscriptions to print and online, to maintain a similar level of monograph spending as during the previous year, and to purchase new electronic resources.

Effective January 2005, the Library will be discontinuing the print subscriptions for a second subset of titles that are currently represented in both print and electronic format in the collection. These titles are available from the following publishers:

      • American Chemical Society
      • American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE)
      • American Medical Association (AMA)
      • American Physical Society
