The Transition to Online Journals: The Third Phase (2006)

  Introduction

The Transition to Online Journals

Starting in 2001, the Library rapidly expanded its online journal collection. This trend has continued. Many of you have told us how convenient the online journals are and how much time they have saved you when doing your research.

For the past two years the Library has discontinued subscriptions to the print counterparts of many online journals. With the Library's flat budget and increased costs of materials, the cost of retaining subscriptions to content in dual formats (online and print) is difficult for the Library to sustain.

We plan to continue the Transition to Online project for a third year. Effective January 2006, the Library proposes to discontinue print subscriptions for just under 400 titles that are currently represented in both print and electronic format in the collection. Over 100 of these titles are from the Okanagan campus, which is now benefiting from the extensive collection of online journals at the Vancouver campus.

Lists of the titles under consideration can be found here.
