What is the Automated Storage and Retrieval System?
UBC Library is the first in Canada to use this technology to provide fast, easy and effective storage and retrieval. The system operates in a secure, climate-controlled setting, providing an optimal environment for the preservation of print and other materials. With a capacity of 1.8 million volumes, the ASRS is located inside the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre at 1961 East Mall.
Requests for material to be retrieved from the ASRS can be submitted using the Library's online catalogue (www.library.ubc.ca). UBC Point Grey patrons make their requests using a direct link to the ASRS. Items must be picked up at the Circulation Desk of the Irving K. Barber Learning Centre. The item will usually be available for pickup within 10 minutes. All other UBC locations make ASRS requests via the Document Delivery system.
