UBC Old VPN Services Shut Down Dec 31/09 :
On December 31, 2009, UBC will be shutting down the old Vancouver Campus VPN service and replacing it with myVPN. Please set up myVPN before the end of December '09 in order to avoid any service disruptions. Visit http://www.it.ubc.ca/security/VPN.html for more details.
Virtual Private Network, or VPN, is the current standard for accessing electronic Library resources from off-campus. Although using the Proxy Server is still possible, we STRONGLY recommend accessing library resources through myVPN.
If you cannot use myVPN due to firewall or other restrictions, please continue to use the Proxy Server or the Proxy Bypass as described here.
What is myVPN?
myVPN provides a way of "joining" the UBC Network from off-campus, allowing you to access electronic resources as if you were on campus. Currently myVPN services are available free of charge to the UBC community.
More information at http://www.it.ubc.ca/security/ VPN.html
What do I need?
You must have a CWL(Campus-Wide Login) Account to use myVPN.

What is the Proxy Server?
The Proxy Server is a piece of software that sits between your web browser and the UBC Library server. The Proxy Server intercepts all your requests to the Library server to see if it can fulfill the requests itself. If not, it forwards the request to the UBC Library server. Its main purpose is to control user access to specific websites. For example, the Library uses a Proxy Server to allow only authorized UBC users to access licensed Library electronic resources located at certain websites.
What do I need?
You must have a valid UBC/Library Card to use the Proxy.
Don't have a Library Card? Get a UBC/Library Card now.
How do I set up the Proxy Server on my computer?
- Identify your UBC/Library Card Barcode and PIN
- Identify your Broswer Version: choose Help, then About from your browser window
- Choose the Proxy Configuration Instructions below for your browser version
- Turn the Proxy off when you're finished accessing licensed Library resources
