Computer Workstations with MS Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

Additional computers throughout UBC Library branches provide access to the Web only. Most UBC Library computers require users to log in using their UBC/Library card barcode and PIN or CWL.

All workstations are running Windows XP, MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, PhotoEditor). Please note Access is not available. All workstations have sounds cards, USB ports, and either a CD-RW or DVD-RW drive

Group Study Areas
    David Lam Library
    • David Lam Library has group study space on the second floor of the library. The group study tables and cubicles are first come first served and do not need to be booked. Please review these guidelines for booking and using the study rooms.
    Education
    • Group study tables are on the main floor near the entrance and on the lower floor.
    Irving K. Barber Learning Centre
    • The Learning Centre has several rooms with tables and whiteboards for group study on levels 3 and 4. Please review these guidelines for booking and using the study rooms.
    Koerner Library Level 1
    • Several rooms with tables and blackboards for group study are available on level one. Book these rooms for a study session using the binder available at the reference desk on level 2.
    Woodward Library
    • Woodward Library has group study facilities located along the east side of the second floor of the library. For further information about Woodward Library Group Study Rooms, call the Woodward Information Desk at: 822-4440. Please review these guidelines for booking and using the study rooms.

Laptop Lending
    Borrowing requirements
    All borrowers must hold a valid UBC/Library card and sign the Laptop Borrower Agreement.
    Advance booking is available at Woodward Library only, up to 3 times per term/per person.

      • Print stations are able to do double sided prints

    Colour Photocopying-Self Service (Note: the colour copiers also do b/w at 7˘ per page). Cost per copy is 40˘ with UBC Library Copy Card.
    • Irving K. Barber Learning Centre Level 2 and 3 inside Book Stacks and Level 2 computer area as well as the Chapman Learning Commons
    • Music Library, Law Library, Education Library, Woodward Library, and David Lam Library also have colour copiers available.

    Engineering Copier
      Koerner Library Level 2
      • The Map and Atlas Collection has an engineering copier that makes roll-fed, 36" wide copies that can be several yards long. It does not zoom, enlarge, or reduce. 70˘ per square foot or $2.10 per lineal foot.

    Microfilm/Microfiche Copiers
      Education Library, Entrance Level
      • One Microform/Microfiche copier that allows duplication onto paper. Cost is 22˘ per copy.
      Koerner Library Level 2
      • There are 8 Microform/Microfiche copiers that allow duplication onto paper. Cost is 22˘ per copy. The Diazo machine makes duplicate microfiche. Ask for help at the Journals and Microforms Desk.

    Web/MS Office Documents
    • Web/MS Office Documents
    • UBC Library print stations support printing these documents at 7˘ per page, including GST.
    • Note: MS Office software is installed on some, but not all library computers. For more information, ask at any library information desk.

    Copy Service
      Irving K. Barber Learning Centre and Woodward Library do copying, including copying onto 8.5x11 transparencies, of Library and other materials. Staff do not retrieve Library materials for copying. Pay with cash, cheque, departmental journal voucher, Visa, MasterCard, debit card, or Library Copy Service account.

      • Black & white copies: 25¢ each.
      • Colour copies: $0.40 each Self-serve, $1.00 each at Copy Service, IKBLC
      • Transparencies Black & white - 70¢ each.
      • Transparencies Colour $4.00 each (Copy Service, IKBLC only)

      Please note: the Library must supply the transparencies.

      Rare Books and Special Collections, and University Archives materials can be copied at the discretion of staff.
      • Cost is 25¢ (8.5x11, 8.5x14), including GST
      • $1 11x17 per copy, including GST
      • $2 18x24 per copy, including GST

    UBC/Library cardholders who qualify for Enhanced Services may order photocopying by staff through UBC Library’s Document Delivery service.

Silent/Quiet Study Areas
    David Lam Library
    • The entire North and East perimeters on Level 1
    • The entire South and West perimeters, and the Northwest half of the North perimeter on Level 2
    Education Library
    • On the west side of the bookstacks, on both the main and lower floor.
    Irving K. Barber Learning Centre
    • Quiet study areas include the Ridington Reading Room (north end of levels 3 and 4), the Nass Reading Room (south end of level 4) and most study areas in the North Wing bookstacks.
    • The Musqueam Reading Room (room 455) is a designated silent study area.
    Koerner Library
    • Very Silent Study area on Level 1
    • Silent study on all floors. (Carrels)
    Woodward Library
    • Silent study in the basement and on floors 2 and 3.
