This collection includes all of Carpenter's correspondence from Sheffield Archives, together with a large collection of material centering upon lecture notes and original manuscripts of all his published writings. Its international scope includes periodicals from more than 50 countries in the Americas, Europe, Australia and New Zealand, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Scholars working in the fields of gender studies, the history of sexuality, the history of social movements, studies in democratization, international studies and globalization will all find this to be a valuable resource.

The main body of 3169 clearly Baroque (1615-1745) works is supplemented by 317 from the Renaissance and 144 later works. Along with works of primarily literary importance, there is a large representation of prose works of a scientific, political, religious, and ethnographic nature.

A collection of scarce Americana up to about 1835; some of the volumes were either in Jefferson's library, or were printed during the Jefferson era. The majority, however, are related to and provide excellent primary source material for the Columbian, Colonial, Revolutionary, and Federal periods.

Articles included in this collection are original, unpublished manuscripts in the form of technical reports, bibliographies, data collections, teaching materials, lectures, literature reviews, methodological techniques and procedures, APA Task Force reports, major projects in progress, papers on management of psychological resources, etc.

Griffis (1843-1928) was an American orientalist, Congregationalist minister, lecturer and prolific author.

One of the most important and prolific women writers of the Victorian period, whose work includes fiction, biography, and historical and literary criticism. This collection represents her complete published book output. UBC has Parts 1-3.

Children's books, chiefly British, from the eighteenth century to the present, collected by Iona and Peter Opie, housed in the Bodleian Library of Oxford University. UBC Library has Units 1 and 2.

The provision of higher education for women was the most widely supported feminist campaign of the nineteenth century. Constance Maynard was a leading pioneer of female education, and may be regarded as one of the most important feminist campaigners of the period. Her diaries provide an intimate view of her religious, intellectual and emotional life.

This collection of important primary sources for the early history of Canada is based on Volume 1 of the Catalogue of Pamphlets, which lists the 4260 pamphlets which have been filmed for this set.

Includes 29 volumes of John Ruskin's diaries covering the years 1835, 1840-41, 1844-52, 1854, 1856-78, 1880-85, 1888. Ruskin was one of the most important social and political commentators of the Victorian era, who also became one of its chief arbiters of taste. His diaries describe his travels to the Alps and Italy, his views about landscape, the sublime, religion and death, and his reactions to early Italian art from Frangelico to Titian as well as contemporary artists such as Turner and Millais.

A collection of 2000 scarce books on nineteenth and early twentieth century Russia from Helsinki University Library's 300,000 volume Russian collection. The Library was an official depository of Russian books 1820-1917.

Consists of a selected group of sources considered vital to research in Russian history. Each title was considered for its availability in original form, and for its value to the furtherance of Russian studies.

Includes a significant portion of the archives of the British municipal police force based in the former Shanghai International Settlement. This branch of the police force was tasked with maintaining an orderly environment for foreign trade and commerce, and it collected intelligence on political demonstrations, strikes, labour and social unrest, foreign and domestic subversive activities, and areas of dispute between the International Settlement and the Chinese government. Includes: intelligence gathered on white Russian emigres living in Shanghai, demonstrations, labour activities, investigations of alleged Cominterm activities, including reports on Cominterm agents, Soviet espionage and the Chinese communist party; and, materials on the Shanghai National Salvation Movement.

In addition to documenting the politics and economics of the region, the collection includes significant material on the labor movement, international relations, and agriculture, as well as human rights, education, the arts, religion, and the role of women.

This collection contains both the journals of the Houses of Congress and, of great interest and historical importance, the scores of documents submitted to that body such as annual reports of all executive departments, and titles designated Senate and House Reports.

>From the Echols Collection on Southeast Asia at Cornell University Library, this is one of the largest collections of monographs on Southeast Asia available in North America. Titles in the Western languages segment of the collection appear in eight languages: Dutch, English, French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and Russian, ranging in date from the early 17th century until 1900. The collection defines Southeast Asia liberally and includes titles on Indochina, Burma, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Malay Archipelago, Java and Indonesia and addresses such topics as local religion and customs, social issues, colonialist and imperialist economics and industry, linguistics and anthropology.

Focuses on prescriptive literature and conduct books (including household manuals); letter writing manuals; guidance books on marriage and bringing up children; advice books on diet, health, and law; guides to the education of young women; descriptions of correct moral behavior. Includes runs of journals and magazines aimed at women.

Based on sources at the Bodleian Library, Oxford, the 100+ titles are divided into fifteen categories including: Cookery and Domestic Life, Education and Etiquette, Marriage and Divorce, Religion and Morality. A prominent British author, journalist, social commentator, and leading feminist intellectual in the second half of the nineteenth century, Harriet Martineau is most noted for her contributions to the economic, social, and political theories of the day. All her activities, including correspondence with her contemporaries, are documented in the collection.

Consists of a broad range of British women's diaries which shed light on sexuality, marriage, household organization and authority, child rearing, health, work, religion, politics, education, cultural life, and feminism. Also includes autobiographical works, travel accounts, and poetry. The eighteenth century is particularly well covered.

Munby, obsessed with the circumstances, habits and aspirations of working women, travelled Britain to collieries, farms, docks, and factories to seek out, interview, photograph, and describe them. This massively detailed written record describes these women and their places of work, their hours of work and wages. It includes excerpts from conversations concerning their views on male-female working relationships, industry and exploitation, child rearing, and marriage.
