The Health Foundation (THF) began 25 years ago as the Dreyfus Medical Foundation. Jack Dreyfus, founder of the Dreyfus Funds and Corporation, started the Foundation after his treatment with phenytoin led to his recovery from endogenous depression. Searching the literature, he found that phenytoin had been reported useful for a broad range of disorders beyond seizures, but that this information was not widely known. The Foundation, in addition to sponsoring basic and clinical research, has, as a top priority, collected and communicated the facts about this remarkable medicine to physicians and other health professionals around the world. Over the years, several comprehensive bibliographies and reviews of phenytoin literature have been prepared and distributed. These bibliographies were derived from the Foundation's library which now contains over 16,000 phenytoin documents; this library is also the basis for the CD-ROM Phenytoin Database, which is made available under an agreement between Ovid Technologies, Inc. and The Health Foundation.
The Phenytoin Database covers literature from 1937 to the present and is produced and distributed on an annual basis.
The following alphabetical list provides the two-letter label, the relevant alias, and exampls for each Phenytoin field.
