SCOPE

General sources in all areas of Geological Sciences. Unless otherwise stated, all materials are located in the Main Library. Within the Main Library for items indicated with "Ref." check in the Science Division and with "HSS" check in the Humanities and Social Sciences Reference Division. For items indicated with "Wd." check in the Woodward Library. Materials in the Reading Room are excluded.

ONLINE LITERATURE SEARCHES

All abstracting and indexing services with the exception of CURRENT CONTENTS are in machine readable form since 1970 (Bibliography and Index of Geology since 1785). These databases can be searched retrospectively, to produce a bibliography, or you can have a current awareness profile, on an annual subscription basis, to identify literature currently being published. There is a charge for this service.

TO DO YOUR OWN SEARCH To search databases yourself use the CD-ROM workstations in the Science Division, Main Library. CD-ROM searching is free of charge. Results can be downloaded onto a 3.5" disk. Please bring your own disk. CD-ROM databases related to geology topics include:

  • COMPENDEX = Engineering Index 1986- (STATION 1) or silvernet
  • NTIS = U.S. Government Reports 1980- (STATION 1) Announcements and Index
  • DSOP = Index to Deep Sea Drilling Project (STATION 2) Use the CD-ROM Station 1
  • CURRENT CONTENTS PHYSICAL, CHEMICAL AND EARTH SCIENCES (Current four months) for more recent journal articles.
