"The Times" Broadsheets for Soldiers and Sailors: Selected
Passages from Great English Writers.
[Made by Sir Walter Raleigh]
The Times Office [1915].
A complete set of the first 72 leaflets, size 8 x 10", mostly printed on one side only on wove paper. The 12 series complete, each six in original printed pictorial envelope, on which Sir Walter Raleigh's name appears as editor.
Raleigh writes in his letter to Evan Charteris, 17 August 1915 [Letters, 1926, Vol. 2, p. 440] "Also I am preparing 'broadsheets' for the trenches, to be worked by the Times. It's better fun than I knew. I wish you would send references of anything that occurs to you, from bits of the Book of Job to accounts of a prize fight.... So, for a time at least, I've got a job."
