The Howay-Reid Collection

The private libraries of Judge Frederic William Howay and Dr. Robie Lewis Reid formed the nucleus of the Special Collections Division when they were donated in 1943 and 1945, respectively. The private library of Dr. Reid in particular was so immense that it surpassed the Canadiana holdings of almost every public library in the country.

This "virtual display", based on an exhibit mounted at UBC Library Special Collections Division in 1998, serves as a tribute to Judge Howay and Dr. Reid and to their lives' work.
