This virtual display is based on an exhibit prepared by Siân Echard, Associate Professor in the Department of English at the University of British Columbia.

Items in this exhibition are drawn primarily from two collections, the Norman Colbeck Collection of 19th-century and Edwardian material, and the Arkley collection of Early and Historical Children’s Literature. There are published catalogues of both collections:
  • Norman Colbeck, A Bookman’s Catalogue: The Norman Colbeck Collection of Nineteenth-Century and Edwardian Poetry and Belles-Lettres in the Special Collections of the University of British Columbia, 2 vols. (Vancouver: University of British Columbia Press, 1987).
  • Sheila Egoff, Books that shaped our minds: a bibliographical catalogue of selections chiefly from the Arkley Collection of Early & Historical Children’s Literature in the Special Collections Division, the University of British Columbia Library (Vancouver: University of British Columbia Library, 1998).

Special thanks to all those who made this virtual display possible:
Sian Echard - English Department
Leslie Field, Brenda Peterson, Erwin Wodarczak - Special Collections Division
Bill Casselman and The Ha - Mathematics Department
