Thomas Malory and Alfred W. Pollard, The romance of King Arthur and
his knights of the Round table. Abridged from Malory’s Morte D’Arthur by
Alfred W. Pollard. Illustrated by Arthur Rackham (New York: Macmillan,
1917).

Here too, a famous children’s illustrator takes on an abridged
version of Malory’s Morte. Arthur Rackham (1867 - 1939) was the most successful
of those book artists who fed the contemporary market for gift books- the
original paintings for his colour plates were often sold separately at
the time of publication. We display here a copy of the first American edition
of this work; there was also a deluxe British edition, larger and limited
to 500 copies.
