For a quick lookup in a UBC licensed e-resource, go to the UBC VPN bypass (Rewriting Proxy Server) <https://rsvpn.ubc.ca/http/www.library.ubc.ca> and logon using your campus wide login (CWL).

To access all the UBC Library's licensed e-resources from non-UBC internet-connected computers, you must configure your web browser to access the UBC Library proxy server. Instructions on proxy server set up are available here <www.library.ubc.ca/home/proxyinfo/welcome.html#>. (Note: PHC does not currently support VPN access).

Upon successful configuration of the proxy server, a pop-up login box will prompt you to key in your username (your 14 digit UBCcard barcode) and your PIN, initially the last 5 digits of your barcode number. When you have finished searching Library e-resources, be sure to go back to the Proxies window and click the "Use a proxy server" check box "off".

Have you set your browser to use the proxy server? Test to see if you're now using the proxy server. If you get the reply, "You are not using the Library's Proxy Server, so something wasn't set properly. Your IP address is:" eg. 139.173.54.12, please check the instructions again or read through the list of common proxy server problems.

If you are unable to open the Tools > Internet Options menu in your PHC computer's web browser (Internet Explorer), contact the PHC IT Help Desk phone 604-806-9333. Advise them of the problem and provide them with the VTAG # of your desktop. They will then push down another browser to your computer - preconfigured to go directly to the UBC Library proxy server. Use your UBCcard barcode & PIN to sign on.
