Alternative Press Index 1991 - present Alternative Press Index covers about 450 alternative, radical and leftist publications. Key periodicals titles indexed are: AbyaYala News: Journal of the South and Meso American Indians Rights Center, Akwe:kon Journal (title change to Native Americas), Akwesasne Notes: A Journal of Native and Natural Peoples and American Indian Rights Center.
CBCA Complete (Canadian Business, Reference & Current Affairs) 1982 - present Indexes wide diversity of Canadian periodicals, ranging from academic titles to special interest publications to general magazines and the 2 national daily newspapers. Titles include the National Post and The Globe and Mail. Indexes some First Nations newspapers: The Aboriginal Nurse, Windspeaker and Kahtou. Controlled vocabulary: indigenous peoples, native peoples, metis, native americans and inuit.
Canadian Periodical Index 1988 - present Index covers more than 400 periodical titles. Full-text articles from select sections of the Globe & Mail are accessible from Jan. 1997 on. Some First Nations coverage: Windspeaker; Inuktitut, First Perspective, Native North American Almanac; also journals such as Canadian Journal of Native Studies, Journal of Indigenous Studies, Acadiensis. Controlled vocabulary: aboriginal australians, canadian native peoples, metis (persons) and native americans.
First Nations Periodicals Index 1981 - present The First Nations Periodical Index contains journals of mainly Canadian Native content. Searchable index of 20 Aboriginal newspapers, magazines and periodicals. No controlled vocabulary.
Geobase 1970 - present GEOBASE is a multidisciplinary database supplying bibliographic information and abstracts for human and physical geography, ecology, geology, oceanography, geomechanics and development studies. The database provides current coverage of over 1,800 journals.
GREENR 1965 - present GREENR (Global Reference on the Environment, Energy, and Natural Resources) is a new, authoritative online resource that focuses on the academic study of sustainability and the environment. Includes news articles, video, primary sources, and more. Controlled vocabulary: Indigenous Peoples.
Handbook of Latin American Studies 1935 - present Indexes over 1350 social sciences and 550 humanities journals. Sample keywords: indigenous languages, indigenous knowledge (systems), self determination, ethnobotany, sustainable development, vernacular architecture. Use the Subject Term Glossary to find additional terms to use as keywords.

Education ERIC (Educational Resources Information Center) 1969 - present Indexes First Nations Education journals such as Winds of Change, American Indian Higher Education, Tribal College, Cultural Survival Quarterly, Wicazo Sa, as well as general education journals. Choose the interface you're most familiar with (if unsure, try ERIC (EBSCO)). Choose the FREE version if you are not a UBC faculty member or student. Law Index to Canadian Legal Literature 1992 - present Bibliographic database which provides indexing of journals, law reports, theses, books, book reviews, essay collections and Canadiana Forthcoming Books. Literature & Linguistics MLA (Modern Language Association) Bibliography 1963 - present Bibliographic citations from over 4,000 journals and series with some First Nations language and literature coverage. Indexes journals such as, Studies in American Indian Literature; North Dakota Quarterly; American Indian Culture & Research; Canadian Journal of Native Studies. Sample keywords: folk-literature, folk narrative, oral history or search by author name: Sherman Alexie, Joy Harjo, Gerald Vizenor, Lee Maracle, Thomas King ... Music Smithsonian Global Sound for Libraries A virtual encyclopedia of over 35,000 tracks of the world's musical and aural traditions. It is possible to browse through subjects or to search for a particular recording. The browsing category is American Indian and then narrow the search using drop down boxes. Headphones or speakers are required for listening to the music.
